What is Reiki?
Reiki is a type of alternative healing therapy. It was developed by Mikao Usui, a Japanese Buddhist, in 1922, and brought to the West in 1937 by Hawayo Takata. The word can be broken into two meanings. "Rei" means God's wisdom or higher power. "Ki" is the life force energy. When combined, Reikie is the spiritually guided life force energy.
Is Reiki Religious?
Reiki is not associated with any particular religion, although it is spiritual in nature. People from all religions (or no religion) can experience and benefit from Reiki and some people claim it aids them in their religious practice, enabling them to be more open and receptive to their chosen deities.
What does Reiki feel like?
Reiki is truly different for everyone! You may feel a very slight tingling, heat, cold, energy, or nothing at all. The sensations or lack of are not a barometer of the Reiki, they are just how your particular body senses energy. You may feel a peace and calm in your mind or physically in general, and you may even fall asleep. Don't worry though, you will still receive all of the benefits of the session, sleeping or awake.
What will my first session be like?
At your first session you should plan to arrive 10-15 minutes early to go over the session, discuss your goals and concerns, and complete any paperwork, etc. Once we are ready to begin, you'll be either lying down or sitting (whichever is more comfortable for you). The session will be whatever is meant for your best and highest and good!
Is one session enough or will I need a series of sessions?
One session is a great start! You will see for yourself how Reiki makes you feel, if it is relaxing, if you feel more clarity after the session. Many people, after trying one session, go on to purchase a series of sessions to progressively work on their current wellness goals.
Do you help treat terminal or chronic illness?
If you have an acute condition you should seek out a licensed medical professional immediately. If you have a chronic or current issue, Reiki can be an excellent complement in your health or wellness plan. Reiki does not directly cure diseases or illnesses. Instead, it's used as a way to manage symptoms and improve general well-being.
